About Us
F
ive Episcopal
Congregations in the Oranges founded The House of the Good
Shepherd in 1882. A 20-room rental home launched our humble beginnings.
By 1890, a new home was built on Henry Street and housed 36 women until the
1960's. In 1966, we purchased a wooded, 15-acre site which afforded us
room to grow. Located in Hackettstown, bordered by the Musconetcong River
and Stephens State Park, our retirement community inspires a natural serenity.
T
he House of the Good Shepherd offers 175 residences
with a
variety of life enrichment and healthcare options so seniors will always have a
place to call home...from independent apartments, cottage homes, assisted living
suites to skilled nursing residences. There's something for everyone.
